Fun Colorful Masks
I read the story Mask Parade by Stephanie Trelogan for Halloween but I didn't want to make Halloween masks so I decided to show the children a collection of photographs of African Kings in a book called, African Kings by Daniel Laine. Usually when I do masks I think of traditional African masks but the masks were made to represent different tribes of people. I thought it would be more interesting to look at faces that inspired the making of the masks. And we discussed (very briefly) observations. I think each participant uniquely displayed their individuality and interpretation of a mask.
Supplies:
Construction Paper
Glue
Scissors
I pre-cut some pieces but I encourage the children to use scissors if they want to personalize a shape.
