Large Romare Bearden Inspired People with TMA Lower Academy
Here are large Romare Bearden inspired people made with Thurgood Marshall's Lower Academy. They did a beautiful job and we used oil pastels instead of chalk pastels. Student had the option of making there own feet and/or shoes.
I read the Tin Forest by Helen Ward. The Tin Forest was about an old man that made his dream come true. It showed the work that must be done in order to actualize a dream and although it does not have many words, it is strong in its message. The old man in the story builds his dream from found objects which encourages recycling and reusing. We used scraps of paper, magazines and fabric to create the people. The participants picked out the faces, hands and clothing, one part at a time.
