My Name is Georgia A Portrait by Jeanette Winter

March is Woman History MOnth and we celebrated by reading, My Name is Georgia: A Portrait by Jeanette Winter, and it is about artist Georgia O'Keeffe. For the younger participants I draw them large flower pictures to paint. The 5 to 6 year old participants are asked to create their own large blooms.

Fredrick by Leo Lionni is about a lovely little mouse that lives artistically and expresses himself through poetry. This story incorporates poetry, color and visualization. 

Complementary Colored SpringTime Mandalas

In these Spring inspired Mandalas the children practice pattern, shape, line and symmetry. We discussed Complementary colors and each mandala was colored with a set of complementary colors. For example: red/ green, purple/ yellow and blue/ orange.

Art at the Thurgood Marshall School in Harlem

The Studio Museum in Harlem has paired up with Thurgood Marshall (again) and guess who will be teaching a class filled with lovely, smart children?
